  Hakea laurina
A tall shrub with oblong to narrow-eliptical leaves that grows in clay, sand or gravel, native to the lower south west of WA. The dense cylindrical flowers are borne in the leaf axils in autumn and winter starting cream and becoming bright red. Probably one of the best known hakeas because it is so adaptable to most soils and aspects, and has even been used as street trees in the eastern states.
